In the same season of the infamous ’65 semi-final, the teams battled for the title. While Leeds had formed an uncompromising side with Bremner, Hunter and Johnny Giles. United had the Holy Trinity of Best, Law and Charlton. Former player, Don Revie was in charge, and Leeds were climbing. In Leeds, a revolution of sorts was growing. It would take until after the Second World War before United became a footballing power. United claimed the first victory, and indeed the first away win, when they beat Leeds 1–0 at Elland Road a week later. ![]() Elected to the Second Division on, they met Manchester United for the first time at Old Trafford on 20 January 1923. ![]() Leeds City, disbanded due to financial irregularities, became United. United won promotion to the First Division. It was the first and last time they would meet. United won the return 2-1 at Elland Road. The first game took place in 1906 at United’s Bank Street ground, Leeds City running out 3-0 winners in front of 6,000 fans. They replaced the disbanded Leeds City in the Football League. ![]() Leeds United wasn’t actually a thing until 1919. ![]() In the beginning, the railway folk of Lancashire and Yorkshire joined forces.
